About

DSCN6870About me:  When I started my first restaurant, I bought all the food supplies, sorted out the serving ware, and set up the barbecue outside our house, near the road. As I started working on the sign, doubt crept in, and I quickly shut down the whole operation, afraid I would not be to keep up with demand. I was 8.

Since then, I have been in and out of professional kitchens, working my way up and learning as I went. Eventually, I figured out all the logistics, chased away the self-doubt, and finally opened a little café and gourmet food shop called Eat Good Food in my home state of Vermont. It was one of the best things I have ever done.

DSCN1689Fast forward, and now I am cooking in Devon, England, The Author’s childhood home. We live in the National Park, on the edge of Dartmoor, with our three children: The Oldest, The Poppet, and The Son (the latter two are also The Twins). Up until early 2017, I was a chef at Schumacher College on the beautiful Dartington Estate near Totnes. Many of the earlier recipes on this site were developed while I worked there. In 2016, I worked with a talented group of people from from Dartington to found The Green Table Cafe, where I am now am Manager/Head Chef. At the Green Table, I work with an amazing crew who I consider part of my extended family and who each, in their own way, push me to be a better cook and a better person. Our customers have the same effect.

Other than that, I love to cook, and I love to eat, and I love to talk about cooking and eating; and my greatest joy – besides my family – is getting up each morning to make something tasty.

You had me with the first paragraph–I love a “hook” that captures me and then surprises! A lovely story about what sounds like a charmed life.
